the Trail needs your help.

Do you hike, jog, bike, walk your dog or take your kids on a nature walk on the Cynwyd Heritage Trail? Do you hope to soon? Join the growing number of people from both sides of the Schuylkill River and beyond who currently belong to the Friends of the Cynwyd Heritage Trail.

The Friends work to promote the Trail in many ways. We have been supporting the Trail clean-up work days, promoting community involvement in the design process and providing educational opportunities involving the Trail. In the coming years we will be supporting Trail enchancements and landscaping. Your contribution supports this work and lets you be counted as a true Friend of a beautiful area. The development of the Cynwyd Heritage Trail depends upon a commitment from those who share a love of the Trail.

Friends of Cynwyd Heritage Trail are Looking for
Adopt-Ten-Tree Volunteers!

We are looking for volunteers for our “Adopt ten trees program”.  Over 300 volunteers planted 272 beautiful ornamental and native trees along the Cynwyd Heritage Trail in April.  We need your help in watering and tending those trees this summer, while they are at their most vulnerable point in the transplant.  You can help assure a great first year start so that the trees will have a long and beautiful life along the trail.

What’s the Job?
It’s simple, requiring a commitment of approximately one hour a week through the summer and into the fall.  You will be assigned a group of ten trees to water weekly – you will be provided water and hoses on site, and all you have to do is show up reliably once a week and fill the slow drip water bag that is already secured around the base of each tree.  The Township is in the process of installing large water storage containers at convenient locations along the trail and will have hoses nearby so you can access that water source. Pull some weeds if they are choking the tree, record your watering on the centralized computer site, and you have done your part to add beauty and native habitat to the Cynwyd Heritage Trail

How do I Apply to Adopt My Trees?
Email Chris Leswing, at cleswing@lowermerion.org and he will assign you your trees and send you a link where e are recording watering.

Who Can Adopt Ten Trees?
This is perfect for a family, group of friends, enthusiastic neighbor, anyone who can commit to a weekly watering schedule. Garden clubs, synagogues, church groups, childrens clubs, all would be great groups to adopt ten trees.

What if I plan to be on Vacation?
If you can try to get a friend to fill in for you, but if you can’t, let Chris know your vacation schedule.  He will have a back-up group of volunteers to cover for people on vacation.

In the construction and maintenance of the Cynwyd Heritage Trail, the Township counts on the Friends, and the Friends count on our volunteers. Since we began our work in early 2008, Friends volunteers have made significant progress in clearing debris and invasive plants. Volunteer work weekends are once per month. Volunteers receive a free Friends t-shirt and reusable aluminum

water bottle. We ask all of our volunteers to please become members.

The Friends was formed in the fall of 2008 to rally community support for the
Cynwyd Heritage Trail. Since that time, we have been joined by a large group
of partners and sponsors, who are committed to helping this project succeed.
Your tax-deductible contribution helps make the Trail possible. A basic individual
or family annual membership starts at only $35.

Members will be included in the Friends’ database and will receive all of the latest news on design updates and other community events.
